In terms of this blog and my foray into the world of online poker I’d like to publish my own variation;
“A journey of a thousand dollars must begin with a single bet”
Although I’m not sure whether that will be $1000 lost or a $1000 gained just yet, or even the exact amount of loss or profit.
Setting aside that rather pretentious introduction this blog is basically going to be my thoughts, notes and write-ups on my experience beginning to play online poker.
I’ll try to post specific hands that caused me problems, theory I’m trying to wrap my head around, breakthroughs I have, and even some of the big busts I get. I’m pretty sure there’s going to be plenty of angry entries and, hopefully, some euphoric ones.
So why am I doing this in public; on a WordPress blog that can be viewed by anyone?
Well, it’s mainly for selfish reasons: I want to get feedback on my posts, perhaps get some followers who know their shit; who can guide me and teach me the correct way to act, to think, to play.
But also if I keep it up over the next few weeks, months and even years, then maybe it could act as a resource for the army of Poker Newbs who crop up constantly, searching the web for guides to understand the game and increase their stack.
Who am I?
Just a 28 year old guy getting to grips with something he’s always been intrigued by, with no strong maths or statistics based background.
I’ve been attempting online poker for, literally, the past couple of weeks, but it’s already something I’ve felt a real desire to improve and become good at.
Playing games online is something I’ve been doing since I was a kid however; in MMORPGs, RTS and MOBAs, so I guess that may help, in some way. Certainly the idea of being up against real people, whatever the medium or game, isn’t one that’s new to me, and I’ve always wanted to be the best at what I decide to do.
It’s just that this time there’s something pretty real on the line: money.
I think that’ll do for an introduction.
